Research shows that the soil in Kenya is highly fertile,<\/strong> without the need for immediate additives or soil improvement. The school owns land, and once the Water Project is completed<\/strong>, there will be sufficient water available to irrigate the plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is essential that the vegetable garden is protected with a proper fence<\/strong>, so that roaming goats and other livestock cannot feast on the crops. The night guard, who is already employed by the school, will take on an additional responsibility. In a country where hunger is widespread and food can be taken easily, it is not unusual to expect people to visit the school garden, especially during the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The project began in July 2026 with the preparation of small plots of land and the planting of several vegetables to better understand the soil and growing conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This initial phase has been made possible through the dedication and effort of Mr. Peter<\/strong>, who has taken the lead in starting the garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our goal is to have the vegetable garden fully prepared by September\/October,<\/strong> the ideal period for planting young crops. This includes preparing the land, securing the area, and identifying the materials and practical expertise needed to establish a sustainable garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Additional funding is required to support the start-up and development of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At this stage, the impact is mainly visible among the teachers and those directly involved in the project, who are enthusiastic about the opportunities the garden could bring to the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the longer term, the vegetable garden is expected to provide fresh produce for the school meal programme, helping to improve nutrition while reducing food costs<\/strong>. It will also contribute to the school’s self-sufficiency and create a practical learning environment where children can learn about gardening, food production, and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Average \u20ac 1,00 = KES 150, with the cost of exchange and handling fee from banks and MPesa (Kenia mobile banking) the net amount of \u20ac 1,00 = KES 142,50 <\/strong>– so we calculate with this rate<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At this moment the quotation for a stone-wall of 280m is evaluated, to see if the investment is worth the goal.
