The Malindi Guardian Angels School Malindi, is located in the small community of Kijiwetanga, is a modest school serving more than 100 children between the ages of 3 and 12. With three classrooms and four passionate teachers, the school pushes forward every day — fighting the harsh realities and standing up for the wellbeing of the ‘Angels’, as they lovingly call their students. Against all odds, they create a place of safety, hope and learning.
When we first became involved, there were no daily meals, the classrooms had hardly any furniture or learning materials, sanitation was limited, the school grounds were open to anyone and fresh water was delivered by truck. Since then, daily meals have been introduced, the sanitary facilities have been renovated and a borehole has been drilled to provide fresh water. The current status of each project is shown on the Projects page.
Michael Mweni founded the school and currently covers most of its costs, partly from the income of a second job alongside his work as the local priest, where he is known as ‘The Man of God’. Driven by nothing more than his commitment to the children and his belief that they deserve a future worth fighting for.
